about…
Fields of Architecture is the trading name for Dale Whitfield, a Hampshire-based Architect working on the edge of the New Forest National Park. I established the practice in 2016 with a commitment to creating sustainable, contemporary architecture across the UK.
With over 11 years of experience in both commercial and residential design, I have worked on projects ranging from internal refurbishments and extensions to barn conversions, listed buildings, new-build homes, housing developments, and apartment buildings. This breadth of experience has equipped me with the ability to balance creativity, technical knowledge, and practicality at every stage of the design process.
At Fields of Architecture, I offer a flexible, collaborative approach tailored to the unique needs of each client. Whether working on a small domestic extension or a large-scale development, I aspire to deliver thoughtful, successful designs that enhance their context and reflect the ambitions of those who use them.
The practice combines a wealth of knowledge and professional expertise with fresh enthusiasm and a forward-thinking outlook. My goal is to craft spaces that are not only visually striking, but also environmentally responsible, enduring, and enjoyable to inhabit..

Architect
BA(Hons) Arch, M.Arch, PgDip Arch, ARB
I am a qualified Architect with over 11 years of experience working in practice. My journey began at Plymouth University, where I completed my undergraduate degree in Architecture, before going on to achieve my Master’s degree at the Arts University Bournemouth. In 2018, I completed my RIBA Part 3 qualification at Kingston University and became an ARB-registered Architect.
Over the years, I’ve worked in a range of practices, both large and small, across the south of England. My main passion lies in private residential architecture, where I enjoy working closely with clients to shape spaces that are both beautiful and functional. I’ve had the opportunity to design a wide variety of projects, including internal refurbishments, extensions, barn conversions, listed buildings, new-build houses, apartment buildings, and hotels.
I am particularly drawn to contemporary architecture and am a strong advocate for sustainable, high-performing solutions. I believe that good design should not only respond to people’s needs but also to the wider environmental challenges we face, making use of natural resources and striving for a low carbon footprint wherever possible.
Alongside architectural practice, I’ve gained hands-on experience through building work on my own property and on site, developing practical skills in general building, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing work. This practical knowledge gives me a deeper understanding of construction, allowing me to design with both aesthetics and buildability in mind.

Lucy, my wife. She was once an Architect, though she has recently stepped away from practice to pursue her own creative business as a flower preservation artist, transforming bridal bouquets into unique framed artworks, such as the below.
She continues to support me with the practice during busy periods and in business management. Like me, Lucy studied at the Arts University Bournemouth, completing both her undergraduate and Master’s degrees, where we first met. In 2018, she achieved her RIBA Part 3 qualification at Kingston University and became an ARB-registered Architect.
